Energy from Waste (EFW) or Energy Recovery (ER) technology produces energy from waste that is not recyclable or compostable.

Energy from Waste (EfW) or Energy Recovery (ER) technology provides a sustainable, safe and affordable waste treatment solution.

EFW has many benefits for the environment and the economy.  It contributes towards meeting carbon emissions and renewable energy targets while also reducing dependency on energy imports. When used for electricity generation, EFW technologies have a steady and controllable output, sometimes referred to as providing “baseload” power. EFW has very good sustainability and greenhouse gas-saving characteristics, as it makes further use of materials that have already been discarded.

36%
The UK imports 36% of its energy needs.
78%
78% of EfW plant operators rate the sector’s outlook as good.
